Hot Buttered Rum

Cinnamon SticksAs summer turns to fall, many of you are going to need warm food and drink to keep you happy.  Reader Heather tweeted last week “Hey Amy!  I need a recipe for a good hot toddy”.  She got me thinking about how many times in the fall and winter season I enjoy a nice warm adult beverage.  Here is one of my favorites that you can either share with friends or continue to fill up your mug (wink, wink).

Ingredients:

1 lb. butter, softened
2 lb. brown sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
1 qt. + 4 oz. boiling water
1/3 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 c. rum
6 cinnamon sticks

Mix together butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla.  Add boiling water and rum.  Pour into mug(s) and decorate with cinnamon sticks.

Don’t forget to either invite some friends over or do as I do.  Make this batch in the morning and sip on it all day as you complete your chores, watch a film on AMC or relax with a great book.
